Plants of Tomorrow: putting Industry 4.0 into practice

To drive our circular economy business, our Plants of Tomorrow initiative brings together a range of innovations aimed at improving performance, circularity and decarbonization. One of the largest rollouts of Industry 4.0 technologies in the building materials industry, the initiative aims to accelerate technological advancement across the entire value chain.

So far, we have delivered more than 800 deployments at 180 plants worldwide , from predictive maintenance to automation, robotics, artificial intelligence and digital twins. We will reach more than 5,000 deployments by 2025 .

Circular cities are the foundation to achieve a net-zero world. We created the Circular Cities Barometer with Bloomberg. This innovative digital dashboard shows how 25 cities are transitioning to a circular “reduce, recycle, regenerate” economy.

In 2021, we launched our Circular Explorer solar-powered catamaran with One Earth One Ocean. Its mission is to clean our oceans by recovering and recycling plastic waste. The initiative also involves education and marine research programs.

With GO CIRCULAR, Team Holcim-PRB is sailing around the world to accelerate the shift to circular living.
